SETTING
This Halo AU goes quite close to what happens in canon, with a big difference more or less explained in this post, but to sum it up:
The senshi hail WAY back to the days of the Prehistoric Galactic Human Empire, in what predated the Silver Millennium by aeons. In spite of humanity's defeat, and the subsequent destruction of all plans for the senshi to protect humanity after the firing of the Halo rings due to Chaos itself, the genesongs of the senshi remained dormant in humankind, occasionally being activated upon being found by constructs loyal to the senshi.
This did not get past Dr. Catherine Halsey, who found at least 150 girls from before the ages of six that had said genesongs dormant in them, with the possibility of being awakened upon reaching adolescence, especially in a time of popular unrest that threatened to become a full-blown civil war. Thus begun Project: ATHENA, which involved the kidnapping of the girls to train them into becoming supersoldiers mastering all arts of war, up until the point where the girls would be turned into the ancient Sailor Senshi of ages past, and try to find all dormant senshi before they get to join the Insurrection.
That purpose immediately changed with the arrival of the Covenant, who declared holy war on mankind, and thus had the thirty-three senshi leading humanity against the genocidal alien menace.
CHARACTER
Joan herself is essentially a genderswap of Master Chief John-117, with the same laconic nature and absolute determination towards his duty and his companions. She is serious-minded, and at the moment her interactions are mostly based on a superior being obeyed, a squadmate being helped, and a threat being neutralized, still concerned with doing the absolute best to save as many lives as possible to fulfill her role as a protector of humankind.
She is a jack-of-all-trades among the senshi, defined by her leadership, bravery, and supernatural levels of luck. She was chosen as their leader both by her desire to protect everyone, as well as her being linked to the planet Reach, the home of humanity's military power.
While she is a master of all weapons and vehicles, and possesses the physical condition of an elite soldier, her element as the soldier of Reach is hard light, which materializes as blue light which can be used to either form solid matter around her to either protect herself, or use them offensively to create weapons or shoot beams of searing light against her enemies.
